I had been struggling with a bad back for a long time and finally took the plunge to go see a chiropractor, my Chiropractor told me I needed to go to Pilates classes to strengthen my core and get more flexibility. When I got home and told my wife she laughed because unknown to me she had just been to a Pilates taster class with Helen. We both attend regularly now and know when we have missed a week we start to stiffen up again. I work away and used to have my chiropractor appointment booked before I went for as soon as I got home because I would be in agony after a long flight and car journey.

I am so happy to have joined Pilates because I no longer have to have treatments and the homework Helen sends out is a god send when you are away. I only wish I had gone earlier.

I had been to a few Pilates classes before but didn’t feel it was for me. My GP kept telling me to go to Pilates to strengthen my back and core but I just didn’t get it, felt like a lemon and like I was useless and everyone else was really good and knew what they were doing. I came across Helen and she invited me to one of her free taster classes. I went along not expecting too much but………..
She explained everything in a way that made sense to me, yes the breathing took a little time to get the hang of but she was so patient and encouraging that I felt at ease and that it wasn’t the end of the world if I get something wrong. One of the things I love about it is she always says “ I am here to make sure you are working safely and effectively and within your body’s limits, pay attention to your body and give it what it wants, it will reward you in kind later” Helens class is all about the members not about her.

I now have a passion for Pilates I never thought I would have, it is all down to Helens relaxed style of teaching. Thank you.



I wish I had come sooner to see Helen. In the weeks I have been going to Helsby Pilates Therapy there has been a big change in my everyday well-being. I think she is a fantastic instructor and she will help the class in their targeted area whether it be Knees, back, shoulders, plantar fasciitis etc. In my case it was lower back, neck, shoulder and an old injury – snapped Achilles tendon. I can now walk my dog every without pain killers and getting out of bed in the morning is easy now there is no pain. I look forward to every session and everyone is so nice and friendly. Thank you for making me feel better each week.

I am a gardener and have had backaches for years on and off depending on what I am doing for work. I have always kept myself it and strong but my back just lets me down and after a hard days work all I want to do is collapse in the chair some days. I had been told by a lot of health professionals that Pilates could help but at the end of the day I just couldn’t face going out to exercise. A friend fed up of my back complaints dragged me along one night and I have to say I am so glad she did. After the class I felt taller, stronger somehow, I was moving a little easier and to my amazement I slept all night for the first time in years. Helen is passionate about trying to figure out what is causing the pain and explained to me the cause of my pain was not where I was feeling the pain. I had been stretching the muscle that hurt but it was hurting because something else wasn’t working. Once we got to the bottom of it I started to improve quickly. I still attend class every week as maintenance so I don’t start to relapse and get stiff and achy again.

Pilates has become a way of life for me that I never thought it would, I was in so much pain I could not see how simple exercises could help. It is amazing how much your life changes when you get out of pain. I can’t recommend Pilates and Helen enough.



Helen is a fantastic instructor, knows her stuff. She helped my with my sciatica and recovery from a small back operation.

After I retired I wanted to do something just for me to stop me from stiffening up. I went along to a free taster with Helsby Pilates Therapy and I am so glad I did. I used to get nagging back ache that kept coming back but now I do Pilates I very rarely get any trouble. Helen has a relaxed teaching style and if I am unhappy with an exercise she always offers an alternative that is better suited to my abilities.

Pilates has transformed my retirement because I can do all the things I planned pain free.
